Color Is Just Color

Many Americans, I among them, are extremely upset about the killing, ridicule, and unequal treatment of people of color in this country. We need to make things right—equal justice for everyone, especially in the United States. The foundation of our country is life and liberty for all—the Preamble of our Constitution says so. 

 

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

 

The idea that one person is worth less than another person is absurd. We are all humans. We are one species—Homo sapien sapien. We are all equal.

 

Skin color is only an adaptation. Long ago, it helped us to survive the conditions of where we were living. People originating in regions of the world where exposure to the sun was extreme eventually evolved with more melanin in their bodies, giving them darker skin to protect them in their environment. Those who developed in regions where sun exposure wasn’t as harsh did not produce as much melanin and therefore had lighter complexions.

 

The color of skin has absolutely NOTHING to do with who a person is. It does not affect intelligence or anything else.

 

It is the 21st century. We need to end this belief some hold that if a person has brown or black skin, their lives have less meaning. It is unconscionable.

 

Those in charge of our police forces need to immediately respond with appropriate action in cases of abuse of power by their officers and take to heart the motto of “protect and serve”—protecting and serving everyone in their communities and not just a select few. A more stringent psychological filtering of recruits may need to be established to determine who is fit to join police forces.

 

Human beings are one family. The color of our skins is only just that—a color.
