Finally Fall
Stepping outside, the sun sparkles in a crystal blue sky. That sweet, woodsy fragrance in the crisp air surrounds you. Autumn has come to the Richmond, Virginia metro area at last.
This is my favorite time of year. I love being surrounded by fiery red, gold, and toasty brown leaves and watching them take flight to pirouette gracefully before coming to rest on terra firma.
I don’t have a need to immediately rake up the leaves. I’ve never been a manicured lawn type. In fact, I usually leave the leaves alone and let Mother Nature take care of them.
Did you know those vibrant colors are the leaves’ true colors? In the spring and summer, we’re led to believe that everything is a lovely shade of green. In reality, those colors are hiding beneath the chlorophyll—the substance in trees and plants that absorbs the light of the sun which is an ingredient for photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the process where trees and plants generate food for themselves and oxygen for us. They clean the air because they use carbon dioxide in photosynthesis too. Oh, there’s my Earth Science teacher persona coming out. I used to teach before the Muse pulled me aside.
Enjoy the fall. Enjoy the wondrous color show that Mom Nature gives us before she showers us in sparkly snow.
For those of you who live in the warmer regions of the United States, I’m sure she’s got you covered.
Happy Writing!
